Toy Wooden Trucks: Wooden Trucks Great For Kids by Jason H.

Wooden Toy Trucks or Heirlooms?

Most toys today are classics, usually considered family heirlooms. Most of these are made of metal or wood due to their durability; the more popular being wooden toys. Though wooden toys are much costlier than their plastic counterparts, parents do not think twice about spending that extra amount for these ‘pieces of art’. A lot of families have realized the importance of investing in high quality wooden or metallic toys which remain in the family for generations of enjoyment.

Wooden toy trucks come in various shapes and sizes for kids to choose from. Children enjoy their wooden trucks most, especially boys, since it gives them the freedom to mange their own little world. They can haul, ride and look like little replicas of the real vehicles. With the right kind of care, these can last for years to come. You will be amazed to find these wooden trucks come in sets and with additional accessories to employ a kid’s imagination and motor skills.

Most of the plastic counter parts are a disappointment for parents worldwide as they fall apart soon. Also, the quality is debatable and to top it all safety and health hazards has always been a constant worry with parents. Wooden toys do not pose any such safety hazards.

Unlike electric toys which make sounds and have in-built or remote controlled movements; wooden toy trucks are limited where sound and action is concerned. This is rather a boon where kids are concerned as it stimulates their imagination where they play for hour’s pretending to drive the truck around.

Unlike plastic toys, the probabilities of a wooden truck’s parts to remove are almost nil. All parts are handcrafted and small parts are attached using all weather glue. This makes wheels and other parts impossible to remove and hence avoid any possible safety hazards. The corners and edges are rounded and all surfaces are sanded and smooth to avoid your child’s little exploring hands against roughness or splinters.

Toys are a major part of your childhood. They are not only fun but a; so assist parents and teachers for a child’s all- round development. An integral part of a child’s learning years, they are a way of learning and often acquire several functions. Toys ultimately aid in developing the overall personality of your child.

Toys are increasingly being used at homes, preparatory and even higher grade schools to help children learn new things effectively. Despite a variety of toys available out there, wooden toys will always have a special significance. Wooden toys and other materials like stacks have been popular for long. These toys are traditional, safer, non-toxic and heirlooms for generations to come.

Baby Toy Safety Tips to Protect Your Child by Ryan J Bell

Each year, thousands of babies are injured by playing with toys that are unsafe. While most manufacturers have taken great care to ensure their toys are baby-safe, the injuries continue. Sometimes, it’s due to the manner in which the toys were built. Other times, babies are left unattended with toys that are otherwise safe but can still cause harm when the baby is alone. The injuries are always unfortunate. Some are tragic. Thankfully, with diligence, most of the toy-related harm that happens to babies can be prevented. In this article, you’ll discover the toy hazards that can potentially hurt your child.
Beware Of Sharp Edges And Points

Toys aren’t typically sold with sharp edges and points. However, some toys are manufactured in such a way that they appear harmless but can cause injury when played with. Also, though many baby toys are built absent of any edges or points that can pierce, cut, or otherwise injure your child, they can break. When a baby plays with a toy, pieces can break off exposing sharp points that can slice or puncture the skin. When you buy a new toy for your baby, take time to inspect it. Remove it from the packaging. Take note of any potential breaks or damage that can expose metal, glass, or hard plastic edges.

Watch The Small Parts

Most baby toys don’t allow small parts to be removed or unfastened. They’re typically sold in 1 piece. But, toys break easily. Simply dropping it onto the ground can cause pieces to loosen. The parts may not break off at that moment, but a slight pull or tug by your baby can easily cause the part to dislodge from the toy. Because babies tend to put things into their mouth, this can be extremely dangerous. Small parts can be swallowed and become lodged deep in your baby’s throat, cutting off air. Or, your baby may place the small piece in her ear or nose. There, it can remain out of reach as your baby screams in pain. While considering toys to buy, make sure there are no removable parts. Keep in mind the materials from which the toy is constructed. Hard plastic can easily break off and cause injury.

Mind The Projectiles

Surprisingly, there are a few toys that are sold with the ability to shoot small projectile parts. There’s very little power behind the projectile, but its size can cause a tragic problem. Your baby might swallow the projectile. Or, it can strike your baby’s eyes. Every precaution that you take in purchasing baby toys with small parts should be taken when buying toys that propel small objects. These toys can become deadly in a baby’s hands.

Choosing Toys Your Baby Can Handle

There’s a lot you can do to ensure your baby is never exposed to the dangers of hazardous toys. It requires a bit of forethought. For each toy you purchase, ask yourself whether the toy is too small. You don’t want your baby to swallow the toy. How heavy is the toy? If dropped onto your baby’s head, can it cause an injury? Does it have a cord that your baby may inadvertently wrap around his neck? Are there pieces that are loose on the toy? With time, can those pieces become detached and pose a safety threat?

These are the questions you should ask yourself whenever you buy a baby toy. By being mindful of the potential hazards, you can all but guarantee the safety of your baby. Thousands of babies are injured by toys each year. Nearly every injury could have been prevented. Use the tips above to protect your child.

Collecting Toy Soldiers - Louis Marx Playsets by Jenni Kerala

Marx playsets are among the most in demand and sought after collectors’ items today. Collecting vintage toys is one interesting hobby; collecting items from Louis Marx and Company makes the activity further interesting and worthwhile. To date, there is a rising number of people who are into buying and collecting the toy soldiers and playsets made by them.
Marx playsets had been among the most sought after and well known toy sets, particularly for their toys created during the 50’s, the 60’s and the 70’s. In those days, every active little boy would have included the toy soldiers and the supporting playsets and other accessories in their Christmas and gift-giving wish lists. Your dad or your grand dad probably would be able to tell you their childhood tales about playing with and enjoying their favorite Marx playsets.

Marx playsets are collections of action or military figures and adjoining accessories. The toy soldiers and other figures were given their own miniature environments and accessories so that they could be played with and enjoyed by kids who liked to set up their own miniature battlegrounds or western towns. In the past, such playsets were played individually or along with other kids.

Usually, the themes of such playsets were war-related, depicting soldiers’ from different time periods as well as various famous battlefield engagements. But there were also lots of western themed playsets that were very popular as many of them were based on hit tv shows on the period.

Collecting Marx playsets is truly one of the most interesting hobbies people have today. The vintage playsets can frequently be found individually or through sets at online auctions sites. There are also modern re-issues to consider as well — usually poured from the same molds as the originals. But usually vintage Marx playsets are more expensive and are more valuable to serious collectors.

Toy soldiers and other playset pieces were usually made of various metals, which is very characteristic of the toy industry prior to World War II. But as the war effort ramped up, Louis Marx and Company started producing their toys in sturdy plastic. Both the plastic and metal figures are highly collectible today though, so it just depends on how you want to focus your collection.

Toys Appropriate For One-Year-Old Children by Nicole Munoz

From a fragile helpless little creature who could barely open his eyes, you’ve seen how your little kid bloomed to become the active, curious, and energetic one-year-old that he is right now.

Now is the time when he graduates from the rattles and baby squeaky toys that used to make him burst into a fit of giggles. Now is the time when he progresses to more advanced toys that will be suitable in developing his skills and stimulating his mental growth.

Toys for one-year-old children include:

Stacking toys that come in different shapes, sizes and colors. These toys which include stackable cups, pails, and rings are helpful in introducing your kid to a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. By learning how to stack up these toys his fine motor skills, hand to eye coordination, and spatial awareness are also being improved.

Unbreakable mirrors of assorted sizes. You might have noticed that your kid loves looking at that baby he sees whenever he’s in your arms and you pass by a mirror. Toys like unbreakable mirrors are not only fun and enjoyable for your kid but will also allow for self-discovery which is important in his developmental progress.

Squeeze toys. These toys are good in improving your baby’s grasp and release skills while the squeaky sounds that come from it will make your kid burst into laughter. Give your kid a variety of squeeze toys which can also be used in games like “where’s the toy?” wherein you hide a toy and have your toddler look for it as his problem solving skills are being honed.

Cars, trucks and vehicle toys that do not have small or loose parts, sharp and pointy objects and are made of durable and flexible but safe plastic material.

Building toys such as large building blocks. Because your kid will be able to construct various creations from these toys, this is instrumental in honing his creativity and imagination.

Balls of various colors and sizes. Play baby soccer with your kid to improve his motor skills and eye to foot coordination by swinging him to kick these balls. Or use these balls to teach him about the round shape and the different sizes and colors and sharpen his visual discrimination.

Educational cardboard books with vibrant images and colourful prints. While your kid browses through these books, narrate to him and tell him about the things in the book, “this is a dog” or “this is a house.” This will be beneficial in helping your kid’s conceptual and language development.

Large dolls, plush toys or puppets. Babies are inherently enthusiastic about puppet shows. While these puppet shows are proven to keep baby amused and entertained, more importantly these will teach your kid about the art of conversation and encourage positive interaction. Have a Baby Einstein puppet talk to you and then respond. Talk about funny things or sings songs together.

Toys that mimic real-life gadgets and devices like toy telephones. Imitating older people is how a baby learns about the world around him Use these toys to encourage imitative play and cultivate his social and language development.
